[ elena's voice is shaky, almost frantic in its speed. not much can make her panic, not anymore, but losing damon? losing damon is... it's unthinkable. it's almost jeremy's death levels of unthinkable, especially here, even with everyone else she has to hold onto. ]
Okay I know you don't care but Damon is missing, and -- Caroline I'm freaking out. I know he's still on the ship because I saw him right after the jump but I haven't seen him since then and it's been days and I've been leaving him messages but he hasn't responded and he never ignores me and --

What if he's lost, or hurt, what do I do? What can I do, Caroline, you've been here longer than me, tell me what I can do. I can't just sit here while Damon might be in trouble.

[ Another pause. ] You know I have zero problems with blood bags. I'm a blood bag into a four-finger glass guy. And if we had them, I'd say stick to your guns, Caroline. But, we don't. Not that you have to listen to me - just, try not to hold everything against Elena. I'll take the blame. Okay?

[ it's been a couple days since elena and damon's trip back into the cave, and elena hasn't talked to caroline since the day before that, trying to give her the space she'd asked for. she'd seen her -- it would be hard not to, the settlement wasn't big enough for them to really avoid each other -- but she'd walked away every time she'd caught sight of her best friend. it was weird, but it was what caroline wanted.
hopefully by now it had been long enough for caroline to want to talk to her again, because the last time elena saw her, she looked about as bad as elena herself had in the first few days of her transition, and elena wasn't about to leave her alone. ]

One of the Whitmores held him captive from 1953 to 1958 and conducted experiments on him and another vampire named Enzo -- all Damon told me was that they were experimenting with vampire healing, and that they cut his eyes out at least once, but I'm guessing there was more involved. During the new year in 1958, Damon finally got out, but he had to leave Enzo behind, and because he cared about him so much, he had to turn off his humanity to do it.
The reason I was going to bring it up is because... Stefan didn't come looking for him during all the time he was held there in the 50s, and Damon was stuck in the cells with me. I don't know if anyone would have been able to find us -- I don't know if the Damon I left behind there even got out.
