[ soooo klaus is currently abandoning the pillar because he's seen enough storms to know when shit is getting serious. in fact he's compelled a little group of helpful natives to assist him with this. while they're doing the heavy lifting, he's calling caroline. ]

I don't believe the weather will be letting up, but I would still like your birthday to go as planned.

Well again, I can't tell you. It would ruin the surprise.

It would require an hour or two of your time. [ more, if she enjoys herself. ]

[ there's a pause.] Okay... [ she sounds a little nervous because, yanno.] When?

I'd like to say tomorrow. [ but well he's looking up at the sky right now. ] I'm checking in on my sister tonight, but I assume during the worst of it you'll be alone.

[ on her birthday. this pause is not one of hesitation, not for the offer he's extending. ]

Stay with me. I'm moving to one of the cottages.

[ caroline might have already cried about spending her birthday alone, isolated from the people she wanted to be with because of the stupid place they're trapped. she doesn't want to be alone. and he's the first to offer. (okay elena did but she didn't want to risk sleeping with her... but well, she's already slept with klaus. a lot).


she hesitates too.] Tonight?

[ she doesn't say no. there's a pause in which he pulls in the necessary breath, but he's as fully committed when he answers. ] Yes.

[ she should say no. she should've flat out denied him... say no, caroline. stefan's not going to ask (and at this point, she shouldn't want him to.) tyler's not here to ask even if she wasn't mad at him. she's alone. and klaus has been there. ]

[ she has been there. however much she doesn't realize the extent of it, she has. he could spend the night and storm without her easily. he doesn't want to, and she doesn't deserve to be alone.

he's filled with a soothing contentment at her affirmation. klaus licks his lips. ]

I'll pick you up before dark. [ he wants to promise her it'll be a good birthday. it's on the tip of his tongue, but he resists the desire to promise anything. he can show her, instead. ]

I'd ask if I need to wear something specific but... [ it's not like they're going out to some nice place. although she does wonder if it would make her feel better or worse to pack a bag.]

[ he smiles. ] Wear something for the rain. I promise you the cottage will be warm and dry, baring any catastrophe. [ there's one promise he can make. ] Anything else is to your discretion.

[ but he's hoping for one of her dresses and lingerie js ]

Okay. [ she nods to herself.] I guess call me before you come.
