Name: Caroline Forbes
Canon: The Vampire Diaries
Original or Alternate Universe: Original
Canon Point: End of Season 3. canon updated to 4x10 the beginning of the ep.
Number: 024

Setting: Mystic Falls
History:
When we first meet Caroline Forbes she is your stereotypical TV teenage girl. She's a bit selfish, shallow, and petty. Her mother, Liz, is the sheriff of Mystic Falls is divorced from her father, Bill, who lives elsewhere with his partner Stephen. While she is best friends with Elena Gilbert, it's obvious that she's jealous of Elena and competitive with her, especially when the new guy, Stefan Salvatore turns her down in favor of Elena. It's then that she expresses her frustration with how Elena seems to get everything that she wants, that things come easily for her when Caroline feels as though she has to work harder for everything. Caroline finds herself drawn to Damon Salvatore, Stefan's brother, and she's more than happy to flaunt her 'relationship' with him in front of Stefan and Elena in attempt to either make them jealous or prove that she can get what she wants. This, of course, backfires because Damon uses Caroline for his own amusement, feeding from her and compelling her to do his 'bidding' so to speak, abusing her badly in the process.

When Elena discovers the bruises and bite marks left from when Damon fed, she confronts him and Stefan spikes Caroline's drink with vervain so that when Damon takes out his frustration on Caroline, he collapses after attacking her. Eventually, Caroline is able to get out from under Damon's control, after a series of events, which included her starting to fall for Matt Donovan, Elena's ex and first love, after Damon calls her shallow and useless which has her trying to drink her sorrows away. The night ends with Matt taking care of her after she confessed to knowing that she is as 'shallow as a kiddie pool' and how she wants to change.

After a few bumps due to her insecurities and Matt's residual feelings for Elena, they grow closer and eventually start to date one another. In this time, Caroline becomes closer to Elena, begins to show more confidence, and becomes Miss Mystic Falls, a title she holds dear. On Founder's Day, a series of events leads to a device being used that affects all supernatural creatures, causing them great pain when it goes off. Unbeknownst to all, Tyler is a werewolf, although the gene has not been activated yet, so when the device goes off as he's driving with Matt and Caroline in the car, Tyler reacts to the device and loses control of the car, resulting in a crash that causes Caroline to have internal injuries. The season ends with Caroline's fate unknown and the doctor's prognosis not good.

Season two starts with Caroline in serious condition, grave enough that Bonnie, Caroline and Elena's other best friend, urges Damon to give Caroline his blood in order to heal her, which he does as a favor to Elena and to Sheriff Liz Forbes, Caroline's mother, whose relationship with Caroline has always been strained, yet they love one another. As expected, the healing powers of a vampire's blood works like a charm, healing Caroline quickly. However, Katherine (a vampire who looks exactly like Elena) comes later that night and suffocates Caroline, thus turning her into a vampire in order to send the Salvatores a message as well as create a vampire to give to Klaus, one of the Original vampires, for a sacrifice. (we'll go into that clusterfuck later). Caroline wakes up alone, the next morning, in transition, although she has no idea what is happening to her, only that she is ultra sensitive to sunlight, her skin burning upon contact with it. It's when she drinks from a blood bag, after a mild 'what the hell am I doing' session. However it also affects her emotions, making her prone to extreme mood swings which she happens to take out on Matt by yelling at him when he tries to open the curtains for her.

She catches on quickly (although part of it is her memories of what Damon had done to her coming back), figuring out how to compel the nurse she feeds on. And she believes that she can handle going to school carnival which ends in disaster (every school event does), after running into Damon, she delivers Katherine’s ‘message’, showing him that she’s a vampire and telling him that she remembers everything he’s done to her. However, she’s not as in control as she believes herself to be, almost biting Matt but instead she flees and runs into Carter, an injured carnival worker, killing him by draining his blood.

Damon finds her after this, sobbing and covered in blood, having decided to kill her because he’s Damon and he’s an ass. But Stefan and Elena find them just in time to stop it. Stefan promises Caroline then and there that he'll take care of her, that he’ll help her through this and manages to calm her down, after giving her the vampire 4-1-1 on how to control her face from changing and explained why her emotions feel out of control. Caroline doesn’t take to being a new vampire very well at first, she complains a lot, especially when she’s stuck in her house during the day. Eventually Stefan convinces Bonnie, who is extremely unhappy about Caroline being a vampire, to make Caroline a daylight ring which will allow her to be out in the sunlight like the Salvatores and Katherine. Bonnie agrees only if Caroline promises to never hurt anyone that Caroline has to prove that she’s still the old Caroline despite being changed. For now, their relationship is a bit strained because Bonnie is wary, understandably, of vampires.

This starts the ‘how to be a good vampire’ lessons with Stefan. He teaches her how to hunt Bambi aka forest animals, explains that all of her personality traits will be exaggerated now that she’s a vampire. Stefan also explains that he believes that being with Matt will help her hang on to her humanity. But eventually, after accidentally attacking Matt in the woods, she realizes that it’s safer for Matt for them not to be together, despite the fact that they love each other. So she brokenheartedly pretends to be petty and jealous, driving him away and forcing him to dump her for acting so irrationally

At the end of the episode, she awakens to find Katherine in her room, who threatens Matt's life if she doesn't spy on (and, or sabotage) Elena and Stefan for Katherine. Elena and Stefan eventually catch on because at this point, being subtle and duplicitous is not Caroline's strong suit. They fake a break up and drama to keep Katherine from acting out and hurting people as retaliation for the two of them being together. Caroline eventually folds and tells Elena what's she's been up to but that's after some serious mama drama. Sheriff Forbes is tipped off by Mason Lockwood (Tyler's werewolf uncle) that the Salvatores are vampires. And when she confronts them, captures them, Caroline comes to save them (after kicking Mason Lockwood's perfect ass), using her vampire-ness to do so. That, obviously, exposes what she is to her mother, who does not react to the news very well considering she's on the town's vampire police squad aka the Council.

They take Liz to the Salvatore's house to stay while they wait for the vervain to leave her system so they can compel her to forget what she saw. Liz is not exactly supportive of her daughter being a vampire, going so far as to say that Caroline is not her daughter, that her daughter is dead. Emotions run high and that's when Caroline confesses to Elena in private what she'd been doing with Katherine. Elena, who is mega friend at this point, tells her it's okay, that she already knew and she understood why Caroline had to do it. However the upside of Liz being trapped in the Salvatore house is that there is some forced Mommy/Daughter time which brings the Forbes ladies closer together. And after the three musketeers, Elena, Bonnie and Caroline, save Stefan from being stuck in a vervain filled well, Caroline excitedly tells her mom about it as well as how she and Bonnie's friendship is finally on the mend. Her mother then marvels at how Caroline has become "[t]his strong, this confident person." Which only makes it harder for Caroline to have to compel her mother to forget all of it, even as her mother promises not to tell anyone. But Caroline is wise enough to know that Liz might trust her daughter, she will never trust the other vampires.

A few days later is the Mystic Falls Masquerade, Caroline is still pretending to be Katherine's pawn, delivering messages between the Salvatores and Katherine. When Katherine demands that the brothers give her the moonstone, a magic stone that will assist in what I like to call Klaus's Sacrificial Clusterfuck, the gang decides to devise a plan to rid themselves of Katherine once in for all. The "gang" of course doesn't include Elena because she wouldn't want to put anyone's life in danger by pissing Katherine off. So they plan a Ocean's 11, well oiled heist-y plan. After some awkwardness with a run in from Matt, Caroline completes her part of the plan, pretending to be scared of Katherine, who sniffs out something's up, and telling her where the moonstone (and the Salvatores) are. But in reality, she helps to trap Katherine in a room with the brothers, sealed by magic.

Meanwhile, because Katherine is without a werewolf (Mason having been killed by Damon), she compels Matt to fight Tyler until Tyler kills him which will activate the werewolf curse within Tyler. Caroline hears this fight and breaks it up, shoving the boys apart, knocking Matt out. But, as usual, Katherine has a back up plan. She compelled a girl to stab Tyler if Matt failed, which she did but it resulted in Tyler defending himself and accidentally killing the girl. Whoops. Caroline covers for a shocked Tyler with his mom, claiming it was an accident. But her subtle knowledge of the curse and Tyler being able to heal quickly makes him suspicious of her. Later on, Damon threatens Caroline to stay away from Tyler, that he cannot know what they are and that werewolves can kill vampires with a single bite.

But Tyler won't stop following her around before he finally confronts her, although he believes her to be a werewolf too. After laughing at him and a few sips of booze, she explains what she is but lies and says that she's the only vampire. He admits to being scared about transforming and she comforts him. And as his first full moon looms, she convinces him to let her help him through it. During this time, things are still awkward with Matt as he struggles to get over Caroline, but Caroline insists that it's for the best, even if it's clear she cares for him. Tyler and Caroline spend more and more time together, she wants to be there for him since there was no one there for her when she first started out. And she is there to see him through his first transition, holding him until the last second before things start to get hairy. She stays close even when he almost kills her as a wolf and soothes him in the morning once the first transition is over.

It's clear that feelings start to develop between them although more so on Tyler's side because Caroline still holds a torch for Matt. Matt approaches her at a school event after seeing her with Tyler, this is also after he came to her house to admit he missed her only to see that Tyler was over. Caroline reassures him that nothing is going on between them and he accepts that, proving it by kissing Caroline. Caroline pulls away quickly and tells him that they can't do that. And when he confronts her on why she's resisting this, she tells him that she loves him. Matt senses that there's something she's hiding from him, asking what the problem is but before she can tell him, they're interrupted by Not Now Dana and Caroline uses that chance to make a mad dash to the exit. Of course, her dash is to her house where Tyler is waiting for her. He questions her motives for helping him, after finding out that he almost killed her as a werewolf, and after a heated exchange, Tyler kisses her suddenly. But she stops him, after a moment, telling him that they can't do this.

Unfortunately, another werewolf, Jules, comes into town looking for Mason and she figures out that he's dead, killed by the Salvatores. which she tells Tyler. He, of course, is not so happy about his uncle's deaths and he realizes that Caroline knew all along. After an angry confrontation with Tyler, Caroline is kidnapped by Jules and a pack of werewolves. This starts the never ending game of Caroline gets kidnapped. They torture her with wooden darts and bullets and vervain, trying to draw out the Salvatores to save her. Stefan is with Tyler at this point, trying to explain what happened with Mason, which had lead Jules to believe he was being held against his will. Jules calls Stefan and offers a trade, Tyler or Caroline's dead. Stefan, always the diplomat, agrees and tries to do this civilly and carefully. But of course, Damon interrupts the meeting, however this time it's for the best because the meeting turned out to be an ambush.

Tyler, who came with Stefan, goes to find Caroline who is stuck in a cage. He hesitates in helping her, much to Caroline's anger and confusion. But eventually he helps her out of the And again he hesitates, not helping her when Jules catches her on the way out and almost shoots her with a gun. After a bit of a struggle, a warlock (sent by Elijah, Klaus's brother) saves the vampires from the werewolves so they can make their escape, leaving Tyler behind.

Unfortunately as Caroline tries to recover at home, Matt calls her to see where she was as they had made plans to do so and she lies to him, telling him that she was with Bonnie. But what she doesn't know is that Bonnie is with Matt at the grill, which obviously upsets Matt and leaves things a bit tense. Then Tyler comes by to try to apologize but Caroline shuts him down, telling him that friends help their friends and that was why she lied to him. And she shamed him for not helping her, slamming the door in his face.

Things between her and Tyler are tense and so are things with Matt. He suspects Caroline and Tyler being involved. And before Tyler leaves town, he reassures Matt that nothing is going on, that Caroline cares for him, and makes Matt promise to cherish Caroline because he cares about her. Things get back on track for Matt and Caroline for about five minutes after she serenades him at The Grill. But as is typical in Mystic Falls, happiness get suffocated quickly when that warlock (who once saved Caroline and the Salvatores) turns against them for killing his son (TOTES BONNIE'S FAULT) and sets the Grill on fire. He attacks Caroline which prompts Matt to save her which gets him shanked by a beer bottle in the neck. Caroline is forced to feed him her blood, exposing her as a vampire, to save his life.

When he wakes up, he, predictably, freaks the fuck out. She tells him that she's a vampire and everything starts clicking in his head. His sister, Vicki, died because of vampires and had mentioned them to him before he died. So 'naturally', he thinks Caroline was involved and leaves the house. Later on, he comes back to her house and she tells him everything. Matt begs Caroline to compel him, saying that he didn't want to know what she'd told him, that he couldn't bear to look at her. So she does so, reluctantly. Of course, this turns out to be a ruse. Matt had gone to Caroline's mother before and told her everything. Together they decided to trick Caroline into thinking that she'd actually compelled Matt despite him being on vervain. So they carry on as if nothing is wrong and after a while, Matt seems to be getting used to Caroline being a vampire, thinking that she's just the same as she was when she was alive (BECAUSE SHE IS. BUT ACTUALLY BETTER)

After Tyler's mom has an accident, he returns to visit her and runs into Caroline at the hospital. And while they have their awkward reunion, they are suddenly kidnapped by one of Klaus's witches. Yes, Klaus is finally in town and he's getting ready to do his sacrifice which requires the death of a vampire, a werewolf, and the doppelganger so that he may become a werewolf-vampire hybrid. This show.... So Caroline wakes up, chained to the wall across from Tyler, although they are eventually saved by Damon (Caroline has to convince Damon to save Tyler too). As they leave, Caroline finds Matt knocked out (thanks Damon) after coming to save Caroline. But unfortunately, it's a full moon and Tyler starts to change into a werewolf, which makes him try to attack Caroline but Damon pushes her out of the way and gets bitten, himself. This saves Tyler and Caroline from being the vampire and werewolf that are sacrificed, unfortunately, Klaus has a back up plan. He makes Elena's beloved Aunt Jenna a vampire and uses Jules as his werewolf, which completes the sacrifice and he becomes a hybrid. (Elena survives being killed with magic provided by Bonnie and her biological father).

Damon leaves them and Caroline/Matt make their way to the Lockwood Mansion after trying to hide from Tyler in the Lockwood Cellar and failing. Matt reveals that he knows Caroline is vampire once they safe and that he tricked her, that her mother was in on it. Caroline's shocked to know about her mom but before they can really talk more, Tyler returns the house and Caroline moves to take care of him. Once she has him settled, Caroline and Matt talk further. Matt decides that he doesn't want this vampire crazy life (no one can blame him) and that even though he still cares for her, he can't deal, which leads to them breaking up for good. Caroline, later, tearfully tells a very naked Tyler that she and Matt broke up and Tyler holds her as she cries.

Unfortunately, life still sucks in Mystic Falls as the dust settles from the sacrifice. Caroline, in her denial about life sucking, tries make it be a normal day, to help Elena and Jeremy over the grief of their aunt. However, Damon is dying from his werewolf bite which makes him crazy and dangerous. And as Caroline, Bonnie, and Bonnie search for him, they find him at the Grill (and he's being hunted by Liz Forbes and her deputies). Unfortunately, Liz shoots at Damon, misses and hits Jeremy instead. And his handy-dandy decoder ring which actually prevents him from dying from a supernatural death, doesn't work because Liz is human. And Caroline is unable to save him with her blood. Long story short, Bonnie is able to resurrect him with very powerful magic and when the Forbes ladies find out, they are overjoyed. Liz tells Caroline that despite her being a vampire, she is still her daughter and they hug it out.

Season three starts out with despair. Damon is healed but that's because Stefan made a deal with Klaus to save him, a deal that makes him Klaus's bitchboy. Stefan, a raging bloodaholic, gets back on the bag and is once again, a killer. Elena, understandably unhappy, doesn't feel like doing much, while Caroline's spent the summer hanging out with Tyler, Elena's spent the summer tracking down leads on Stefan. But oh no, Caroline will not stand for moping. Not when there's a eighteenth birthday party to throw in Elena's name. And she does. It's a rager at the Salvatore's house and everyone's invited.

Things between her and Tyler are obviously a bit... tense, in a sexual sense. It's clear they both like each other and they don't know what to do with that. And at the party, after an awkward encounter with Matt, Caroline lashes out at Tyler's date Sophie in jealousy, compelling her to leave. Tyler's not a fan of being cockblocked so he confronts her, insisting she needs to decide what she wants, and she tells him what she wants by grabbing him and kissing him. They go back to his house and finally get it on. But as Caroline tries to sneak out in the early morning, she's confronted by Carol Lockwood, who has been acting strange around Caroline lately. Carol suspects Caroline is a vampire and she's proven right when she shoots Caroline with vervain darts and knocks her out. And thus, kidnapping numero three begins. Caroline wakes up in a special dungeon type room, chained to a chair to find her father is the one holding her captive. He was there to “fix” her, to condition her to hate blood with pain by torturing her. He uses vervain gas and removes her sunlight ring so he can torture her by burning her with sunlight. She tries to tell him that she has control, that she can control her urges but as the torture continues and she gets weak, it gets harder for her to have control. Liz and Tyler notice that Caroline's missing and they seek to find her, after forcing Carol to tell him by showing her what he is, a werewolf, he and Liz go to save Caroline. Mama Forbes takes back her daughter with force (a gun) and Tyler carries a badly burned Caroline to safety. Eventually she heals after getting some blood in her and being comforted by her mother and Tyler.

Things stay tense with her father, despite her reaching out to him a few times, and even saving his life from Damon when Damon attacks Bill during one of Damon's classic "I'M A BAD BOY, RESPECT THAT" hissy fits. But things with Tyler heat up and things seem to be going pretty smoothly. Caroline tries to settle into life and make their senior year THE BEST YEAR EVER by encouraging the whole gang to get into all the activities including senior prank night. Of course, like all events, things go wrong. (Seriously, why do they even do anything in large groups anymore in this town? They're asking for it.) Klaus, having found out that Elena is alive, comes back to town, bringing his sister and Stefan who has been defying him for a while now.

Rebekah, Klaus's moody sister, attacks Tyler and Caroline, bringing Tyler to Klaus. Klaus has been trying, unsuccessfully to make hybrids and because he knows Bonnie is a powerful witch, he forces her to find a way to fix that. How you may ask? By killing Tyler and forcing him to become a hybrid, if Bonnie doesn't figure out how to fix it, he'll die like all the rest of hybrids Klaus has tried to make. Caroline wakes up to this clusterfuck and she struggles to help Tyler through this. And eventually, Bonnie (and Matt) finds a way. And after some shenanigans, Tyler becomes Klaus's first successful hybrid, much to Caroline's horror. Oh! And this is the first meeting between Caroline and Klaus and the Klaroline shippers rejoiced.

First day of senior year is looking pretty bleak but Caroline is ever the optimist despite the fact that Tyler's acting weird and Elena's depressed over the fact that Stefan was forced by Klaus to 'turn off' his emotions. Meanwhile, Rebekah infiltrates Caroline’s life, showing up at school, joining the cheer squad, and giving Tyler blood. Tyler seems to be reverting back to pre-werewolf Tyler, so basically he's being a cocky asshat, but it's when he shows loyalty to Klaus, trying to thwart a plan to take him out that makes them all realize something is up. Damon explains that Tyler is sired to Klaus and that he has a loyalty to him that cannot be broken. Despite this, Caroline cares too much to just leave Tyler alone even if he's acting like an ass, it's not his fault.

Meanwhile, Caroline helps Bonnie perform some magic, after the ghosts of Mystic Falls start showing up. When the ghosts of vampires killed by the council seek revenge on those on it, Caroline helps to fight them off after giving Jeremy Gilbert a lecture for kissing his ghostie-ex. Eventually the ghosts are sent away and things go back to normal in Mystic Falls. Which, as you probably figured out, isn't very normal at all. Homecoming comes around and Caroline is a party planning machine. Tyler, of course, is still sired to Klaus and has taken to feeding off of 'willing' humans with Rebekah, it seems, which pisses Caroline off. Again, Caroline gets pissy with him when the homecoming dance floods and he throws it at his house instead. However a plan is in place to kill Klaus (one of a thousand) but Caroline's not in on it, however when Tyler finds out about it, he believes Caroline is lying about having no knowledge about it. Tyler stabs Caroline with a syringe filled with vervain and according to him, he does it to protect her from Klaus. Caroline wakes up more than a little pissy at Tyler but he tries to explain that he knew she wouldn't leave if her friends were in danger and he wanted Caroline to be safe. Caroline is skeptical and questions how they can be together if he's sired to Klaus. And despite him begging her not to turn her back on him, she does. And they break up. Trust issues, man.

Caroline's birthday rolls around and she's officially eighteen even if she's stuck in seventeen limbo. Despite spending most of her life planning a huge eighteenth birthday party, Caroline doesn't feel much like celebrating. She's single with a boyfriend whose sired to a psycho, Stefan is a crazy vampire, and her friends are pretty miserable too. But her friends won't have it, when Caroline ditches school, they come to her house and surprise her. But Caroline is just a negative Nancy, pointing out that she's frozen in time and will never actually be eighteen. Elena won't let that slide and she takes Caroline, Bonnie, and Matt to a mausoleum in the graveyard, suggesting that they have a funeral so that Caroline can mourn her old life and start a new one. The party serves to cheer Caroline up quite a bit, that is until Tyler shows up. They go off together to talk, Tyler admits that he loves her and apologizes again which melts Caroline's tipsy birthday girl heart. They start making out but Tyler, who had been told by Klaus to bite Caroline, actually bites her. He runs away and Caroline collapses in shock as the fatal bite's effects start to take hold.

Matt manages to get her home but there's nothing any of them can do. However, Liz calls Klaus and he comes to 'save the day' by giving Caroline his blood. But not before he gives her a whole 'I can show the you world' speech, explaining the beauty of being immortal, and asks her if she wants to live. Of course, she says yes and he gives her his blood. And in the morning, she finds a diamond bracelet from Klaus, thus beginning the wooing of Caroline Forbes by Klaus.

Tyler comes to Caroline with a solution to his sire problem. He has asked Caroline's father for help. Caroline's father had resisted being compelled and was able to keep himself from it. He agrees to help Tyler, explaining that he has to turn into a werewolf as many times as it takes for it not to hurt anymore so that his loyalty to Klaus for 'saving' him from being forced to turn will be broken. However, Tyler attacks Bill and Bill is taken to the hospital in critical condition. Meredith, the most useless character on the show, gives Bill vampire blood to heal him. He recovers quickly although he is not happy about being given vampire blood to heal. Unfortunately, a mystery someone attacks and kills Bill soon after, therefore trigger his transition into becoming a vampire.

However, Bill does not want to be a vampire and he prefers death to that fate. So Caroline is forced to watch her father die, hurt that he'd rather die than be like her, but he explains that he loves her and is proud of her no matter what. Bill dies with Caroline by his side and she is understandably devastated. But not so devastated that she can't go to a party! Distraction is Caroline's favorite vice, after all. Klaus's whole family is in town and they're throwing a partay. And Klaus decides to turn the creepy dial up and send a dress to Caroline for her to wear. At first, she wasn't going to go but when she finds out that Matt is going with Rebekah. She goes to the ball and she dances with Klaus 'reluctantly', he shows off his art collection and horses, clearly trying to get up in Caroline's business. He gives her the official 'I can show you the world' speech which Caroline rejects, standing up to him by saying he can't always get what he wants. She leaves but somehow by the time she gets back, she finds a drawing that Klaus had drawn of Caroline and a horse. Meanwhile, Tyler has left town after the attack of Bill, going to the mountains to try to break the sire bond on his own. And he's been out of reach, that doesn't stop Caroline from calling him to leave messages.

Yet another plan to kill Klaus comes along and Caroline acts as a 'blond distraction' for Klaus while the others work to stab one of the Originals. Esther, their witchy mother, had performed a spell that bound all the Originals together and if one died, they all die. Caroline is successful in distracting Klaus by flirting with him until Klaus feels Kol getting stabbed, however the plan fails, as they all do. And Klaus is a bit pissy at Caroline.

Bonnie's mom is turned into a vampire by Damon, to break that binding spell. They have found out by now that they cannot kill Klaus because he is the source of their bloodline and TVD rules state that if the Original is killed everyone who is of their bloodline will be killed. Meaning if any of the Originals die, Caroline and all the vampires in their little gang could die (and they do not know who the source of their bloodline is at this point). Caroline is there to help her through her transition, however it doesn't go very well. And eventually Bonnie's mom abandons ship. Caroline and Rebekah butt heads over planning the next decades dance and eventually Rebekah wins by planning a 20's dance. Tyler shows up, back from the mountains and unsired from Klaus, however, they know they have to keep it a secret from Klaus, in order to have the upper hand. Which means when Klaus asks Caroline to dance? Tyler can't say squat. Still Caroline reassures Tyler that she loves him and she's going to stick by him.

Alaric, who went crazy because dying so many times and being brought back to life due to the Gilbert ring, has died. But first, he was turned into a crazy vampire whose life is bound to Elena. If she dies, he dies. Thanks crazy magic rules. Anyways, he's crazy and is determined to 'save' Elena from all the vampires that she surrounds herself with. So Caroline is kidnapped yet again by Alaric to lure Elena to the school to save her. Again, she's tortured with vervain and he uses pencils pressed into the desks to keep her there. Ric tries to taunt Elena into killing Caroline but Elena kicks his ass with some vervain and saves Caroline. Events unfold that cause the 'death of Klaus' really, he's just been desiccated and incapacitated thanks to a spell by Bonnie (and the hard work of everyone else) and because of that pesky rule. Caroline throws a small 'Ding Dong the Klaus is Dead' party and they all toast with shots.

Of course, things can never stay happy. Crazy Vampire!Ric has told the council how Mayor Lockwood and Sheriff Forbes have supernaturals for kids and have been covering it up. They encourage their kids to leave town however, Caroline knows that they can't leave until they've helped their friends. You see, a new problem has arisen, Ric is on a rampage, determined to kill Klaus, which if you recall is bad for the vampires in Mystic Falls (and all over the world but who cares about them). They agree to run away together after they've helped their friends, Caroline goes to do just that and Tyler goes to get their supplies. However, Ric is successful in killing Klaus, which means no matter what, Tyler is going to die. Caroline rushes to find him, sobbing because Tyler only has moments to live. They have a tearful farewell but Tyler doesn't let her stay to watch him die. He sends her away because unbeknownst to Caroline, Bonnie has helped Klaus possess Tyler's body in order to save him, but really it's to save her friends and her mother.

And that my friends is where Caroline is coming in from, kidnappings, awesome parties, and a dead boyfriend.

Personality:

"Look, about Caroline, no matter what her flaws are, when push comes to shove, you’re going to want that girl on your side."
-Stefan Salvatore

Like every teenage girl, Caroline comes with her issues; she can be petty, immature, insecure, and jealous. She gets wrapped up in things that don't really matter to most when there are 'bigger things' happening. Outwardly, she seems sweet, peppy, in control but of course, some of that, later on, appears to only be skin deep. Caroline has a bit of a competitive streak too, especially where Elena is concerned. It feels like, to her, that she tried so hard, and yet, Elena doesn't have to try at all and she gets everything while making it seem so effortless. She can be gossip sometimes and has an uncanny ability to find out information from any source and fast. Her 'Little Miss Innocent' act comes in handy because she's good at providing a distraction on demand despite being a terrible liar.

She knows how shallow she can be and she understands that this and her tendency to be a bitchy and controlling are two very serious flaws. She very much wants to change and work on her flaws; she wants to be "abyss deep" and her "kiddie pool" level frustrates her. She's also admitted that at times, "I'm a terrible, awful person-but I'm working on it". She starts taking baby steps towards the grand understanding that it's not all about her.

But over all, Caroline is a fierce and loyal friend. Despite the bitchiness and the shallowness, she can be just as kind and caring and sweet. She's protective of her friends and is willing to take on whatever comes that keeps them safe. She saved Matt from dying, therefore exposing her secret and herself as a vampire because she loved him and couldn't stand by and watch him die. But she also puts a lot of stock in other people's loyalty, she expects it in return. When Tyler didn't help her and the rest of the vampire gang against the werewolves, after she helped him (which is risky considering a werewolf bite is deadly to a vampire) and kept his secret, Caroline told him they were done as friends, that their friendship was over.
"You prefer who you are now to the girl you once were. You like being strong, ageless, fearless."
-Klaus
After Caroline is turned into vampire, her personality and neurotic quirks seem to go haywire, which is standard vampire fare. To quote her from the show, "[N]ow I'm an insecure, neurotic control freak... on crack?" It's that control freak and her ability to stay true to her humanity that gives her unparalleled control as a vampire, that keeps her from giving into the urges, the need for blood. Caroline always tries to remain positive and strong despite the horrible things that happen to her (like being turned into a vampire, being rejected by people she loves for being a vampire, being kidnapped and tortured more than once.). She's quite confident in her vampire-ness and who she is now that she is a vampire. Even when her father tortures her for being a vampire, trying to torture the blood lust from her, she accepts that she cannot change, that she can't be changed but that she has a good grip on her need for blood.

Regardless, she struggles with the fact that she felt good killing the only and only person she killed, when she first turned, which is part of her motivation to try to stay normal, to do normal teenage girl things. She worries about making the most of her senior year, she wants to do all the ceremonial, traditional things, she wants to make her life as normal as she possibly can. She sees it as a distraction for herself and her friends, so she hyper focuses on dances and town events, wanting them to be perfect, to go perfectly (but we all know people mostly die at dances in Mystic Falls). Although at times, she seems to be a tad more mellow, it's become easier for her to take more things in stride, sometimes.

Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:

As a vampire, Caroline gets the usual perks of living forever and never aging, she heals faster too. She's got super human strength, speed, and heightened senses. She's got the ability to control someone, remember certain things or forget them entirely (aka compelling). Because Caroline is a new vampire and drinks animal blood, her ability to compel (as well as her physical strength) is less effective than older, stronger vampires.

The only way to kill in the TVD-verse vampire is sunlight, a werewolf bite, fire, or a stake through the heart. Anything involving wood or the herb vervain is extremely painful and debilitating for a vampire. Caroline has a ring made by her best friend Bonnie, who is a witch, that allows her to go out in sunlight, but very few vampires have this thus helping her hide the fact that she is a vampire.

Like a lot of people, Caroline tried to imagine what death was like. You know dying of old age, walking towards the light, feeling that compulsion to stay but giving in and letting go. Was there even a light? Did you go to a place with endless shoe sales and puppies? Or was it just darkness, nothing? Okay, so she didn't think about that much. She dreamed about other things too, wondered about what he life would be like once she got out of high school, graduated. Maybe she'd marry Matt and he'd get a football scholarship and they could go to college together. They'd have babies, lots of them. Or maybe not. Either way the future used to be filled with endless possibilities. Now it was just plain endless. She wouldn't get any answers, thanks to the whole being dead thing. Which, she liked to point out whenever possible, was definitely not her fault or what she wanted. Stupid Katherine. Katherine had shattered her typical teenage sense of immortality and replaced with the real deal.

But the thing that kept her grounded was, well, it was a person really. It was Matt. And now he wanted nothing to do with her. If Caroline had figured out anything in her short life, it was that nothing happened the way you planned it to. And that wasn't the way she saw herself telling Matt what she was, what she is. Sure, she expected him to freak out, to be scared, to ask questions, maybe to shout. Actually, his initial reaction was pretty much how she feared it would go but it was realistic right? She couldn't expect him just sit there and say 'Oh, okay, so you're a vampire. That's okay, that's hot, let's make out.' Although, that would've been just fine with her if it had gone that way. But it didn't.

This is too much. All of this is just too much. I don't want to know this…. You can make me forget. You've done it to me before…. Please make me forget, Caroline. I don't wanna look at you and see what I'm seeing right now.

Caroline thought she knew what heartbreak was but, really, until that moment, she had no idea. I don't wanna look at you and see what I'm seeing right now. Those words hurt the most, he saw her for what she really was, the thing she didn't want to see herself as. A monster. She was a monster. And no wooden bullet, vervain dipped dart could hurt worse than that realization. There was no humor in this, there was no cute joke to be made, no convincing him otherwise. Caroline wasn't going to get her vampy-Elena-Stefan-esque happy ending. Matt didn't want to love her for who she was. He didn't want to give it time, he wanted to be rid of the burden she laid upon him. And she couldn't blame him. As selfish as she was, she couldn't deny him his request, she couldn't say no as much as it hurt to do it.

So she made him forget. Forget the truth about who she was, who she'd be forever.

[ Okay, so being kidnapped to space is a new thing. And this is coming from a girl who's two stamps away from a free kidnapping. Oh wait, they're all free and a pain in the ass. As much as the goop in her hair and the motion sickness sucks, at least she's not being tortured or under the threat of vampire sacrifice.

Seriously, Caroline's had a rough year or so. After getting the low down, she's still pissy. As much as home is a mess, she needs to be there.]

Okay, seriously? These jumpsuits don't flatter anyone. [ Priorities.]
