[ caroline's not going to let elena see just how bad she looks. she's looking rough and probably hasn't been out much the past two days. she doesn't feel the urge to kill but she feels like she's dying, starving, like her veins are drying up and well, they are.]

If you're going to lecture me about feeding, then no. Otherwise, yes.

[ elena's trying not to worry too much about caroline choosing voice over video, but it's probably obvious in her face just what she's thinking. if caroline doesn't want elena to see her... well, that doesn't bode well. ]

No, it's -- well it's kind of that, but it's also... There are two things I wanted to talk about. First, Damon said I could tell you that thing I was keeping from you the other day.

[ must. not. be. catty. ] Okay. [ its easier to be not!catty if you say less!]

[ deep breaths, elena. you can be unemotional about this. just the facts. ]

In the 1950s, one of the Salvatores sold Damon out to the Augustines. One of the Whitmores held him captive from 1953 to 1958 and conducted experiments on him and another vampire named Enzo -- all Damon told me was that they were experimenting with vampire healing, and that they cut his eyes out at least once, but I'm guessing there was more involved. During the new year in 1958, Damon finally got out, but he had to leave Enzo behind, and because he cared about him so much, he had to turn off his humanity to do it.

The reason I was going to bring it up is because... Stefan didn't come looking for him during all the time he was held there in the 50s, and Damon was stuck in the cells with me. I don't know if anyone would have been able to find us -- I don't know if the Damon I left behind there even got out.

[ she'd tried to remind collected while she was relaying the information, but by now her voice is shaking, and she is visibly upset. the thought of what the damon she left behind must be going through... she's been trying not to think about it, but it's tearing her up. ]

[ caroline maybe mad at elena but that doesn't mean she loves her, elena is her best friend. and she doesn't like seeing her best friend upset. she listens patiently and thinks a few thoughts that she won't say aloud. another reason why damon is such an asshat.]

Elena... Someone will find you both.

If no one found Damon, how is anyone going to find us? Stefan never looked for him, not for five years. No one knows the place even exists.

[ but that's not the point. caroline doesn't care about her concern for damon, and elena's not going to make her listen to any more of it. she visibly composes herself, taking a deep breath and tucking her hair behind her ears. ]

Anyway, the second thing was that I was thinking -- we could try having you drink my blood. When I couldn't feed on anything but the vein after my transition, Damon offered me his blood, and I think it might have worked if it hadn't been for the sire bond. At the least it might be able to tide you over until we find a more permanent solution.

Because we always do. It always works out. [ almost always.

however, she goes silent and her lips press together for a moment for a moment at elena's offer, suggestion, whatever.] No. That's... I don't want to do that, Elena. [ That was weird and--] You're not strong enough or getting enough blood for me to feed off of you. And besides, you'd just have to go back and feed off of Stiles again.

[ but pause.]

Not always. [ not for jenna, or ric, or bonnie or stefan for a long while. they always survive, but they lose a lot in the process. nothing really works out for them.

caroline's reluctance doesn't exactly surprise her, but it's still frustrating. yeah, it would be weird -- particularly weird considering the way damon had reacted when she drank his blood -- but a little weirdness was better than starving. still, she wasn't going to force caroline to feed on her. ]

Fine. I'll let you know if I find any animals.
